I am a planner. And my race for the U.S. House of Representatives is no exception. I may not prevail, but it will not be for lack of thinking through how to win.
Voters in my district have made clear what they do and do not want from their political candidates. They do favor moderates. They do not want a certain former Republican president, or one of his supporters. That leaves one viable candidate in my election.
Political prognosticators say that an average Democrat would beat an average Republican by eight percentage points in my district. But the Democrats are not choosing an average candidate, and I know a Republicans who would do better than average.
“Defund the police” goes down as one of the biggest mistakes in U.S. political history. From this mistake, we all can learn a lesson about knowing what to defend and what to defund.
Like most residents of Minnesota’s Third Congressional District, which I seek to represent, I like to wear the same team colors as the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
